Tomahawk Beach is a beach break on a golden sand beach. There are several peaks down the beach with both right and left handers to choose from. Good fun, punchy waves. Best at the eastern end. Western end can be polluted due to sewage outfall pipe, surf at your own risk. Good for all levels of surfer. Careful for rips.

From Dunedin head north on Cumberland Street State Highway 1, then follow signs to Port Chalmers turning right onto St Andrew Street, then left onto Anzac Ave State Highway 88. Continue on State Highway 88 to Port Chalmers. At Port Chalmers turn left onto Wickliffe Terrace then Borlases Road, then turn right onto Blueskin Road. Continue onto Purakanui Road and continue right onto Heyward Point Road where the road changes to gravel, be careful from here on in. Turn left onto Murdering Beach Road and down to the beach.
Murdering Bay is a right-hand point break along the rocky bay onto a sandy beach. The bay features a long, wally, right-hand, barrelling wave that seems to keep on going. Good fast take off with several sections to play. Murdering Bay isn't very consistent, as the conditions have to be just right for the swell to get in, but when it's on it's magic. On small days, there can be a nice mal wave. Suitable for intermediate to expert surfers. When it's on, crowds can appear, so know the rules and respect the locals.
Karitane Beach is a beach break on a sandy beach. There are several peaks down the beach offering both left and right handers. Good fun, punchy waves. Good for Beginners to Experts. The south end is known as Karitane Pipe when it is firing and has quality right Barrels.
Karitane point is on the north side of the Huriawa Peninsula and features a right hand point break off the rocks out in front of the Waikouaiti River mouth. The wave is a long, hollow, barrelling right hander with a gnarly drop in. The other section breaks close to the rocks and seaweed, but produces some epic waves. Either climb down the rocks or paddle out the river mouth to enter the line up. Best for Advanced to expert surfers. River mouths often have strong currents or rips, so watch out.
St Kilda is one of Dunedins local breaks, just minutes from Dunedin center. St Kilda is a beach break on a golden sand beach. Its a long stretch of beach, so you can find you own spot and aviod any crowds. Good for beginners through to experts. St Kilda can get popular in summer, so know the rules and watch out for swimmers. There is a St Kilda Surf Club on the beach.
Allans Beach is a solid sandy beach break. There are many peaks that form down the beach offering both left and right-handers. Suitable for intermediate to expert surfers, or beginners on a small day. Often a bit bigger than the city beaches.
St Clair is a popular local spot in Dunedin and can get a bit busy on a good day in the summer. St Clair is a sandy beach break which sometimes has a good right hander off the rocky point by the salt water swimming pool. It can get hollow and offer good barrels. Good for all levels.
