Waiapu is a beach break on a shingle beach, located at the mouth of the Waiapu River. The wave is punchy and fun, but it can change depending on water movement and shingle banks. Suitable for intermediate to expert surfers.

Directions
From Gisborne town centre drive east on Gladstone Road, onto Wainui Road, State Highway 35, towards Wainui. Continue past Wainui on Moana Road and onto Whangara Road and keep heading north. Continue past Tokomaru Bay and Waipiro Bay, then turn left onto Te Araroa Road, State Highway 35. At Tikitiki turn left to stay on Te Araroa Road, then turn right onto Rangitukia Road. Turn right onto Beach Road, down to the beach on the north side of the Waiapu River mouth.
