Blue Cliffs is a beach break on a sandy beach, located near the mouth of the Waiau River, in Te Waewae Bay. There You can surf anywhere along this stretch of coastline. The Waiau River mouth is one of the better spots with good right handers into the river mouth. There are lots of other peaks down the beach to choose from, with both right and left handers on offer. At the western end of the beach it can get a bit more sheltered with some good peaks. The waves can be inconsistant, but when the conditions are right there are some good, punchy, fun waves. Godd for surfers of all levels.
Porridge is a left hand point break along the south eastern side of the bay, on a rocky shore. this place gets heaps of swell and pumps. The wave is long and fast, with several sections from wally to hollow barrels. You must ask the farmer permission to cross his land for access to the beach, which is a short walk over the hill. Best for advanced to expert surfers only. Careful on the rocks. It gets colder down this area, so wear plenty of rubber.
Beatons is a left hand point break along the south eastern side of the bay, on a rocky shore. The wave is nice and wally, with a good length ride. Oreti Beach is one of Invercargill's local beaches, which features a beach break on a sandy beach. There are several peaks to choose from down the beach, with both right and left handers. Riverton Rocks is located in Taramea Bay at Riverton. It is a right-hand point break along the rocky point, into a beach break on the sandy beach. This break requires a large swell to get working. The best spot is the right-hand point which can give a nice long ride when on. There is also the beach break with several peaks along the beach, featuring both right and left-handers. Usually soft, but fun waves. Good for all levels of surfer. It gets colder down this area, so wear plenty of rubber.
Nicks Point is located at the South Western end of Colac Bay. Its a right hand point break that reel off the rocks near the point. Beginners sick to the Colac Bay beach break, Nicks point is best for Intermediate to advanced. It gets colder down this area, so wear plenty of rubber.
