Rimmers is a solid beach break on a sandy beach, located on Aucklands west coast. Muriwai is a very popular spot in the summer. There are several peaks down the beach to choose from, with both left and right handers, so you shold be able to fins a good spot to yourself. The wave is punchy and powerful, heaps of fun. There are often rips and dangerous currents, so better for the experienced surfers especially on big days. Good for all levels of surfer. It gets crowded so know the rules and watch out for swimmers.
Maukatia-Maori Bay is a beach break on a sandy beach, located just south of Muriwai on Aucklands west coast. There are several peaks along the beach to choose from with both right and left handers. There is a good left hander off shag rock in the middle of the bay and also at the southern end of the bay. The wave is powerful and hollow, with barrels on offer. The shorey can get heavy. Good for intermediate to expert surfers.

Whatipu is a right hand point break on a sandy beach, located on the north side of the Manukau Harbour entrance. The wave is hollow and powerful, with a steep fast drop in and barrels on offer. Requires incoming tide. strong currents. Advanced to expert surfers only.
Port Waikato is a left hand point break on a rocky point, located on the points at the south end of Sunset Beach. The wave is powerful and wally, with a steep fast drop in and nice long rides on offer. Advanced to expert surfers only.
Bethells Beach is a well-known surf break on Auckland's West Coast. It is a sandy beach break with both left and right-handers. The wave has good punchy peaks which can get hollow. Suitable and fun for all levels of surfer. Bethells can get crowded, so know the rules and respect the locals.

Piha features a solid beach break which is renowned as a top surf beach in New Zealand. South Piha often has a good left-hander off Camel Rock. There are good peaks with left and right-handers off both sides of Lion Rock, which can get heavy double-ups from the back wash. Use the rip near Lion Rock to make an easy paddle out. North Piha has several peaks down the beach, near the stream and down the north end. Piha is suitable for surfers of all levels, but can get a solid shorey so be careful and when it's big leave it to the advanced riders.
