Piha

Piha features a solid beach break which is renowned as a top surf beach in New Zealand. South Piha often has a good left-hander off Camel Rock. There are good peaks with left and right-handers off both sides of Lion Rock, which can get heavy double-ups from the back wash. Use the rip near Lion Rock to make an easy paddle out. North Piha has several peaks down the beach, near the stream and down the north end. Piha is suitable for surfers of all levels, but can get a solid shorey so be careful and when it's big leave it to the advanced riders. Piha is very popular, especially in summer, so crowds are to be expected - know your rules.
