Medlands Beach
Medlands Beach is a beach break on a sandy beach, also known as Oruawharo Bay, located south of Kaitoke on the east coast of Great Barrier Island. There are several peaks along the beach with both right and left handers. There is also a good right hander at the southern end of the beach known as Shark Alley. The wave is powerful and hollow, with steep fast drop in's and barrels on offer. Best for intermediate to expert surfers. Beach can get popular in the summer, so watch out for swimmers.

Medlands Beach is located on the east coast of Great Barrier Island, which is a approximately a 3-4 hour ferry ride out east of Auckland.
From Auckland, take one of the ferrys, Fullers or Sealink are options and you can take your car over. Ferry takes approx 3-4 hours depending which ferry and which destination you arrive at.
You can also fly to Great Barrier Island which is much quicker.
From Tryphena harbour its a 15min drive to Medlands Beach. Drive north on Shoal Bay Road to the Tryphena Town ship. In Tryphena turn right onto Medland Road. Turn left to stay on Medland Road. Coming into Medlands Beach, turn right onto Oruawharo Lane, then onto Sandhills Road and find a good peak.
