Purakaunui (PK) Bay
Purakaunui Bay, better known as PK Bay, should stand for Pumping Kegs! This well-known beach break in the Catlins has top-quality, powerful, consistent and very fun surf. The beach break provides left and right-handers. Surfable at all stages of the tide. There is a campground here if you choose to stay a little longer.

From Dunedin, head south on State Highway 1 to Balclutha. At Balclutha, turn left onto High Street and continue onto Owaka Highway Road. At Owaka, veer left and continue on Papatowai Highway Road. Cross the Catlins River and turn left onto Purakaunui Falls Road. Turn left onto Long Point Road, this will turn to gravel from here. Take the first left to stay on Long Point Road and then veer left onto Purakaunui Bay Road all the way to the beach. Careful, as this is a narrow, gravel road.
